L’immaginazione sociologica, il sottosviluppo, la costruzione della società civile, Istituto Gramsci Siciliano, Editori Riuniti, Roma - ISBN 88-359-5470-3 The author discusses the topic of education in the work of Danilo Dolci from a perspective which moves the focus of the analysis from a maieutic paradigm to a new epistemology centred on the "ecology" of complexity. This was seen as a revolutionary educational method tested by Danilo Dolci far earlier than the systemic theory worked it out in a more methodical and systematic way. Dolci is presented as a precursor of second order cybernetics, whose most representative exponents are mentioned in the essay in order to outline several common points with the idea of education in Dolci. He contributes to reshaping the notion of education by opening a new field of studies oriented toward unveiling links among different disciplines and sciences, reconnecting the observer to the observed reality, and overcoming the dichotomy between the rational dimension and the emotional sphere in the analysis of knowledge processes. The essay points out how educational reform needs a re-definition of both objects and subjects of learning, in order to get rid of divisions among disciplines. Dolci' s experience underlines the relevance of a new "ecology of minds" directed at linking sciences, languages, codes and to making them intercommunicate with the purpose of creating a new "cognitive democracy".
